Traditional (water mixable) oil painting of Emma Watson, actress who portrays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies.
After starting this painting in May 2009, I worked on it intermittently throughout the summer, Thanksgiving, and Winter break. It was after I first tried water mixable oils in media class that I wanted to attempt a realistic portrait over the summer. Technically, this is my second attempt at oil painting, which I really enjoy because of its prolonged drying time.
Admittedly, this is only 90% finished, as the hair is still quite blotchy and stiff (like it was hairsprayed into a windblown shape)... but I wanted to upload this before going back to university for the winter semester. Hopefully I'll be able to work on my hair-painting technique and fix this up sometime in the future, but for now it's done to the best of my ability. I'm quite happy with how it turned out because this is one of the first times I feel like I've caught most of her likeness in a painting.
love the colors ...
beautiful work
